The Oak Tree brand was founded by two former EY colleagues who share a passion for serving owner-operators of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The brand’s core values – responsive customer service, hard work, perseverance, integrity, and community – reflect its Upper Midwestern roots.

DJ Jones, CPA
Co-Founder
A Minnesota native, DJ brings a diverse professional background that includes experience in accounting, mergers and acquisitions, operations, and strategy. He has worked at Ernst & Young and RSM, as well as a manufacturing startup with Appcon. An entrepreneur at heart, DJ’s true passion lies in supporting business owners and founders as they operate and grow their businesses. Outside of his career, DJ pursues a variety of personal interests, including property renovation, marathon training, all things outdoors and hiking, and following Minnesota sports teams. He currently resides in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago.
Jack Slayton
Co-Founder
Also a Minnesota native, Jack has experience throughout small business operations with specific focus areas including accounting, HR, management, sales, and strategy and growth operations. Jack started his professional career at Ernst & Young, left the corporate world to start his own business, and eventually wound up working for a small business focused Private Equity and Venture Capital Firm, Proprietors Capital, where he led the Finance Team before transitioning into an Operating Partner. As an Operating Partner, Jack steps into various Portfolio Companies to lead the organization, improve operations, and streamline growth. Outside of his career, Jack is an avid golfer, passionate Minnesota sports fan, and loves to spend time at the cabin with his family and friends. He currently resides in Golden Valley, MN.
